Liverpool missed Joe Gomez and Matip to injury while Manchester City’s De Bruyne was only fit enough for the bench.

The game started off with cautious play from both sides. Despite Guardiola having promised not to change his playing style it was quite noticeable that city had lined up more defensively.

Manchester city took the lead through a stunning Kun aguero goal. The argentine striker was one on one with Dejan Lovren inside the Liverpool box and the Croatian allowed Kun to shoot at goal. A huge mistake from the Liverpool defender and there was no way alisson was saving that shot.

City went into the halftime break ahead but Liverpool were still in the game. Soon after the second half started Andy Robertson set up Roberto firmino for Liverpool’s equalizer. Liverpool were dominantly better in the second half and that was down to Fabinho. Fabinho was introduced for James milner in the second half and Liverpool switched to their preffered 4-2-3-1 formation with gini and fabinho in a double pivot.

This change lead to the liverppool equalizer and all was going well for the reds. However, in the 72ndminute Leroy sane got into an open position on the edge of the Liverpool box and fired in a low shot which hit the post and went in to the dismay of many Liverpool supporters. The game ended 2-1 in favour of the hosts and Liverpool’s lead at the top was cut to 4 points.
