The Fans Voice: with Gilly

Gilly was the first fan to be interviewed by Adrian on the Anfield Press’s new fan section. Here’s what he had to say;

Gilly, how do you think the Reds have done so far this season?

We had a bit of a shaky start, I think we went 4-5 games without a win in September/October and it was the classic case of us not being able to break down teams who had no intention of playing football. But since the Spurs game we’ve been awesome. To be 3rd in January when we’ve only just now addressed our defensive issue is a massive testimony to how brilliant Klopp is.

Secondly, what do you think of the atmosphere at Anfield when you have gone? Have the fans backed the reds enough?

I don’t go many games tbh, the last one I went to was the Semi Final against Southampton and we lost 1-0. It wasn’t the best atmosphere but it was in the middle of that dire spell we had last season so everybody was just on edge. I think the problem now days is the ticket prices because these people work hard all week and they’re paying silly money, they deserve to see good football. The atmosphere isn’t what it used to be but I think Jurgen is bringing it back.

Next up, are you hurt by the loss of Coutinho or do you think the Reds will cope perfectly fine with him?

I am gutted he’s gone to be honest, he’s such a quality player, and such a likeable player. He will be difficult to replace him but I think we CAN cope without him IF we bring somebody in now rather than later. He is a very difficult type of player to replace though.

Can you see the Reds cementing a top 4 finish and how do you think we will cope against Porto in the last 16?

I wasn’t that confident the other week but our last few games have made me believe that we realistically should be finishing in the top 4 now and anything less would be a huge failure. As for the Champions League I think Porto is a kind draw. It won’t be easy in the away game but with the second leg being at Anfield I expect us to go through. I fancy us against anyone over 2 legs especially if the second leg is at home.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, do you think he has proven to Klopp he is worthy to start every game for the Reds?

I think now is his chance to show Klopp what he can do. He filled the Coutinho role against City and he owned it. But if we bring somebody else in this month he may lose his place, so I think of this as an audition for him at the minute. It looks like Klopp has done in 3 months what Wenger couldn’t do in like 5 years – get the best out of Ox

Reports around suggesting Emre Can may not well be signing a pre-contract with Juventus whatsoever. Do you think we will keep hold of him?

Most likely, but only because I don’t have he’ll have many other offers. I’m not a fan of his, he gets caught on the ball far too often and then gets booked trying to win it back. If he leaves I won’t be too gutted but I would like him to stay and prove me wrong.

Excluding Coutinho, who do you think our stand-out musk fielder has been this year?

Excluding Coutinho its difficult to choose. I think we have a weak midfield but if I had to choose I’d say Ox. Really coming into his own and winning over the fans. I’d even give a shoutout to Milner who’s been solid when called upon.

Finally Gilly, do you think Robertson has cemented his place in left back over Moreno

Robertson hasn’t put a foot wrong since he got into the side. – Gilly

Most definitely. I can’t understand why some people were asking if Moreno should start v City. Why would he? Robertson hasn’t put a foot wrong since he got into the side. Moreno has improved but he’ll always be a loose cannon. Robertson is turning out to be a bargain.

Thanks to Gilly for taking his take to answer the questions asked by Adrian. I hope you enjoy reading through it. If you interested in getting involved. Message @AdrianCocking_ on twitter
