@AnfieldExpress will be giving their opinions on future signings that could be at Anfield next saeson.
So the long saga for Virgil van Dijk remains, and according to Di Marzio Chelsea have submitted a bid of €60m for the Southampton man. In my opinion I wouldn’t worry too much about Di Marzio reports, I can’t really see why an Italian news outlet would be reporting transfers between two English clubs. I still think Liverpool will sign Virgil Van Dijk for £70m as he is the key to our defensive issues.
Furthermore, Naby Keita is still unlikely in my opinion, with Leipzig decided they won’t be selling any key stars this summer, I really think we should focus more on bringing in a centre half and a left back. Rather than splashing out £50m and potentially benching both Lallana and Wijnaldum, who both performed levels above in their previous seasons. It’s a nice problem to have with having such great talent on the bench, but after them both having good seasons, why drop one of them, even both?
Speaking of potentially dropping players, if one had to go between Lallana and Wijnaldum for the bench; (that’s speaking if we do get Naby Keita), I think it’ll be Lallana. The midfielder has offered unbelievable energy but in my opinion his end product is still not all there, 8 goals and 7 assists is a great return for a midfielder, but after December he hardly contributed a goal. While, Wijnaldum contributed 6 goals and 11 assists throughout the campaign. This is outstanding seeing that he has just been playing on the wing and for a relegated side before joining us. But, with Philippee Coutinho dropping down to that no 8 role, where he offers uneal creativity. Espically, the fact that he can carve teams apart which is the problem we had this season, I think he would be best suited with Wijnaldum in midfield.
For the goalkeeper scenario I don’t see that changing. Mignolet had a brilliant end to the season, keeping 6 clean sheets in his last 11 games of the season. Which given the fact Liverpool’s main concern is giving the defence a whole new coating; isn’t exactly a bad return for a keeper who’s been given a lot of stick throughout the years. Karuis, for me needs more time to become a top keeper.
The main issue is still left-back. With Alberto Moreno potentially leaving the club for Napoli or a Spanish side and James Milner playing out of position. I think we should go for a swap deal between Moreno and Ghoulam. This would suit both teams and it would finally come to an end for Liverpool with their left-back crisis. However, I still think we should have a go at tempting Mendy to Anfield. Mandy would sort out our left-back issues and he would be around for years as he is still only 22. Since, Mendy joined Monaco this year he has had an impressive campaign, picking up 11 assists in all competitions and is regarded as one of the most prestigious left-backs in Europe.
